A member of the message board at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, “Prayingbelieving” relates that she is concerned because she hasn’t become pregnant only four months after having her tubes untied through tubal reversal surgery. She asks the question, “Should I have a Clomid challenge test?” Dr. Monteith responds with the helpful information that this is mostly unnecessary in women under the age of 40. He says, “If you are having consistent, regular periods then you are ovulating and would not benefit from Clomid. Dr. Gary Berger and I recommend HSG’s (hystersalpingograms) one year after surgery if unable to become pregnant. It may take that long and HSG’s can be inaccurate.” The good news is that many patients have an HSG, which shows tubal closure and they go on to become pregnant. One of the benefits of tubal reversal surgery is the chance to restore fertility and become pregnant naturally each month following the reversal procedure.

The message board members of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center who are pregnant following having their tubes untied discuss how they will be able to deliver their babies. Some of these tubal reversal patients have had prior cesarean sections and now would like to consider normal birth rather than repeat c-section. Many doctors will allow this, but in some states vaginal birth after cesarian section (VBAC) is prohibited. Having a tubal reversal does not the method of delivery. That is a decision that will be made between each pregnant woman and her local OB-GYN doctor.

Women desiring tubal ligation reversal at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center must have a body mass index (BMI) under 35. Michelle shares her experience, “I already had my tr (tubal reversal) but had to loose about 45lbs to get my bmi down. I started weight watchers in December and had my tr in March…it was alot of hard work and no cheating but I lost all the weight I needed to plus a few extra pounds. I walked usually every 1-2 days around my block (I lived on a hill). It definitely made a difference. It’s so worth it. I am pregnant finally with my first tr baby!
