Dr. Charles Monteith Gives Advice to Ladies Trying to Conceive After Tubal Reversal Surgery
A member of the message board at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, “Prayingbelieving” relates that she is concerned because she hasn’t become pregnant only four months after having her tubes untied through tubal reversal surgery. She asks the question, “Should I have a Clomid challenge test?” Dr. Monteith responds with the helpful information that this is mostly unnecessary in women under the age of 40. He says, “If you are having consistent, regular periods then you are ovulating and would not benefit from Clomid. Dr. Gary Berger and I recommend HSG’s (hystersalpingograms) one year after surgery if unable to become pregnant. It may take that long and HSG’s can be inaccurate.” The good news is that many patients have an HSG, which shows tubal closure and they go on to become pregnant. One of the benefits of tubal reversal surgery is the chance to restore fertility and become pregnant naturally each month following the reversal procedure.
