Are Tubal Ligation Records Needed Before Reversing Tied Tubes

October 26th, 2008

It is not unusual for women to have trouble locating records from their tubal ligation, especially if many years have passed since the surgery. At Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, Dr. Gary Berger can proceed without the information. A second option is to have Dr. Berger begin with a screening laparoscopy to assess the tubes. With screening laparoscopy, the procedure is performed just prior to the reversal so that patients do not have to undergo surgery twice. If good tubal lengths remain, the doctor will go directly to tubal repair. With the screening laparoscopy option patients receive a partial refund if the tubes are found to be too short to repair. Fortunately, Dr. Berger has successfully reversed tied tubes on patients with all types of sterilization techniques. In 98% of cases the tubes are able to be repaired.
